I know many Catholic schools help with that, they collect a bunch of cans and foods and then donate them.

  2. Mc5

I donate to hospitals for children with diseases, McDonalds has a donation box, and I donate at least a dollar every time I visit [one of these] restaurants.

  3. AW1

I don’t know too many places or people that donate their money or time to the needy. Times are really tough now with a lot of people out of work. It seems like to me [there are] more people in need now that ever. In my town of Westchester, we do have a food bank and a soup kitchen to feed the poor.

  4. AS5

This project did really make me think about how people all over the world suffer from hunger. As far as I’m aware of, the only organization that helps fight hunger is ACTION AGAINST HUNGER which is an international humanitarian organization that helps kids fight hunger. In my city Bellwood, I dont know of any people who help fight hunger. Which is pretty sad because when ever I go out there are many people on the streets begging for money.

I had great time making my empty bowl… I put a lot of thought into this bowl because I know that someone else is going to keep it. [I] like how at the end my bowl looks like a cute hat that a grandmother would wear.

  6. sj1

A few years ago I helped my grandma and her church give out food for the food pantry to help out the hungry. I have also given my school canned food to help in the food drives to help out the hungry. No matter how young you are, I think you should try and help as much as you can.

  7. DH6

This project was successful with raising awareness. I know of many restaurants that have donation boxes. There are also churches that will collect food and clothes to give to the needy.

  8. DD1

This project was very fun and a great success . I know alot of places that have donation boxes. There are also churches that will collect food and clothes to give to the needy.

  9. JS5

Organizations like the Action Agaist Hunger, restaurants with donation boxes, Angelina Jolie (and many other celebrities), churches and even our Key Club (obviously) are making a difference in hunger all around the globe, state and community. Even the smallest contribution will make other people realize there is someone who needs a hand.

  10. NR5

I think some churches, schools, fast foods restaurants, the goodwill and some stores make donations to people all the time. I know the church on 19th Ave. they made a food drive where you can donate food and clothes, but besides that I don’t other people that has given out food or clothes to helpless people. I know that when I see homeless person begging for money on the streets I have to give them something, at least a dime or 3 pennies, because I know even the smallest things can mean a lot.

  11. TS1

I honestly do not know any one or organization that is helping with the hunger problem. I think these numbers are low because people don’t know how serious this problem is. I think we should make it a bigger deal and maybe the number of organizations will increase and the amount of hungry people will decrease.

  12. JMA6

I know a lot of churches that donate food to those in need. My church in particular have fundraisers and food drives to get money to help donate.

  13. PD5

There are many places that donate to these charities. I know that McDonalds helps and the clubs in school are raising money and food to donate to these charities. I am in Multicultural club [at PW] and we try to get food to take to these charities

  14. RM1

I feel that everyone is making a difference whether they know it or not.For example when schools tell students to bring in canned goods, most students think its just extra credit but that actually can be an major impact on those without.

  15. Yg1

I know a lot of people are helping hunger problems like people from church , good will is helping people with all kinds of donations. As in me myself, I like donating money in church to help those in need.

  16. MA1

In my community the main organizations I see who try to help the community are the churches. In my church we have fundraisers to help raise money for people less fortunate, we raise the money and when we have the right amount we give out the food to people who need it.

  17. JMM5

I don’t know of too many places or people that donate their money and time to help stop world hunger. I know Oprah provides money and support to a number of organizations that help fight against this issue. When I go inside McDonald’s, I often notice a little container where people can drop spare change which would be donated to whatever organization is for helping stop world hunger. There’s many other restaurants that have donation boxes. Sometimes in clothing stores they would ask if you want to donate a dollar to whatever cause it may be. They also do this in some grocery stores as well. Churches often donate food to the hungry. There are few schools that would collect cans and other goods and donate them to the hungry. I don’t know of anybody specific in my area or state, but overall people across the world are trying to make a small difference and stop world hunger.

  18. AF5

We helped them by donating food and clothing to the needy. Also helping them by giving them some money. At my old school last year we went to a soup kitchen and helped feed the poor.

  19. Ac5

I know there is a lot of celebrities donating money for food to charities like Beyonce and how Michael Jackson did. In my community we have a lot of resources to help people that are hungry. I usually go to the soup kitchen once a month to help feed the homeless. [Teacher’s note: It is commendable to spend your time helping out others and working in a soup kitchen is definitely an experiece we all should have in our lives. This type of work puts you directly in contact with those who need and doesn’t leave it to someone else. Kudos for you AC, please keep it up!]

  20. St6

I feel that there are many celebrities out there trying to make a change. One big charity called “UNICEF” is a very helpful way to end world hunger. I know that actress Selena G. is one of the celebrities who work with that program. It is a very smart and helpful charity for those in need.

  21. OSO5

I know of many high school students who donate clothes, food, shoes, books, bags and so many things to the needy and even some parents encourage their kids to donate things for other people. [The] country is trying hard to eradicate this predicament of poverty.

  22. MB5

I don’t know of many celebrities that has actually took the time out to donate or help stop world hunger. However, Oprah has always been an inspiration [to] many people. The fact that she made it in life [and] now is trying to make sure other people can make it is very generous. She also, got a school built in South Africa by donating 40 million dollars. She has done many significant things to help others who can’t do it on their own.

  23. EJL1

I know churches have fundraisers to help get money to donate to people who need it. They [the churches] also give out canned goods (I’m not sure exactly what day) to people who need it.

  24. eh.1

I always contribute and donate a dollar to places where they ask for money but I know that the dollar I give goes to either a hospital or special program [which] helps out someone in the world.

  25. A P 5

i think that the teacher that started the empty bowl project was doing an awesome thing to help people that are less fortunate than us.

  26. Mo5

It’s really sad that people around the world die or suffer hunger. Most of us take the things we have for granted, such as food. We throw away the food that’s still good in most cases, or we don’t eat because we don’t like it. I try to help the people in need by giving them money. When I go to McDonald’s I try to put in at least a dollar. Ms.Graham was encouraging her students to bring in can foods for extra credit points.

  27. NB5

I believe I am making a difference because I am helping the less fortunate by giving them clothing and food. When I was younger, i use to go to stores and get a bunch of food to give to my church and my church gives the food to the needy.

  28. JLW6

I cant sit right here and say I know how it feels to be in [their] shoes [because] I do know something about not haveing anything to eat. When I was 5 all the way up to 7, I was homeless, me and my mom. I was one of those people out there begging for change. I can relate to this project, that’s why i made it the best i could do. [Teacher note: it is commendable for you to share this with the blog! It takes great strength to get past hard times and your willinigness to share your struggle shows how you have grown from that time. No one should struggle with this at the age of 5 but the fact that we all can help eliminate those situations is what this project is all about. Thanks again for sharing your part of this global story.]

  29. ST6

I believe that everyone who is involved in charity is making a difference. I do know of some churches involved in charity, such as my church and I think that is a very good thing to be involved in.

  30. LM1

I believe that church communities make a difference because they go out and collet food donations than go and give it to a food bank. That method seems to help alot. I’ve been apart of helping my church out and I’ve seen hungry people get the food we collected.

  31. AFJ1

I believe that [there] are many people even those that can’t even stand on their own two feet that make a big difference around the world [and] in our communities, but Beyonce is one celebrity that I know that helps out around the world. -AFJ1

  32. jap1

This will hopefully show people that many family’s go without eating everyday. One of my friends could [not] afford the food in [school] so for two weeks I would pay for her lunch. Today her mother has a job and can give her money but it was always good to help others in need.

  33. JD5

I think places like church help out a lot on people who can not afford to buy food for there family. I think there should be more places where they can go to go get some food if they cant afford it.

  34. KA5

A lot of people have a huge impact on world hunger. By people, I mean churches, communities, organizations, even schools! Without the help of them, world hunger would be way worse than it is right now. They make a big difference by donating food, even if it was just a simple can of vegetables.

  35. DB5

The empty bowl project was one of my favorites. I felt really good knowing that I was creating something beautiful for the hungry children in America. I had an impact on the world. I made a difference. And my bowl was made of the most beautiful colors. Pink and blue with a pink flower in the front. I think that the save the children really has a huge impact on the world. Seeing their commercials on the T.V they show you a helpless child then a child that has been helped and they try to convince you to help

  36. IN6

The people that contribute to the organizations are the true ones that really help because they are giving back to the community, while the organizations orchestrate this.

  37. Darrylb3

To me many celebrities are giving money to people who are hungry. Also I think some stores or fast food places give the left over food to organizations who give food out too. Many churches like mine have food pantries when anyone in need of food can pick up can foods and other items

  38. SC2

While making this empty bowl project I thought of who will be eating out of this. I think everyone is helping out the community and if they aren’t they should because everyone deserves a chance. Everyone helps one way or another. There is always somethimg you can do to help out this community.

  39. S2C

From my perspective I think most schools and churches have a big impact in helping others because they have food drives often.

  40. TF2

I think that FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN is making a difference. I worked a whole day bagging and weighing food that was going to be sent to children that need it. Also there is the Proviso food pantry that helps out in our neighborhood.

  41. AB2

What I made my empty bowl, I did that for a reason. My reason was making the empty bowl from my heart to the people who do not have anything to eat out of. We had donated food to the homeless like cans, cereal boxes, etc. If rich people can donate anything, I know that kids around the world can do it also. I know a lot of churches, restaurants , stores, etc are donating food and clothes for the homeless people because they are trying to stop world of homeless people.

  42. JL2

Many people in this world are making a difference to world hunger. For example, we made a difference by making bowls for the hunger. Multiple of churches, such as my community church, help homeless, hunger people by making sandwiches and giving them out to homeless people in the city.

  43. KW3

I know many celebrities that help out hunger and they start organizations. It’s also know many fast food restaurants that raise money for hunger as well.

  44. JMV2

I think places like church help out a lot on people who can not afford to buy food for there family. I think there should be more places where they can go to go get some food if they cant afford it.

  45. AL2

I know that many Elementary Schools do food drives where they collect can goods and donate them to charity. I’ve seen many stores and churches collect goods to help out the hunger.

  46. nj1

I liked making empty bowls in class. I think there is a website that quizzes you and for each question, rice is donated.

  47. tea1

I believe that the Proviso West students are making a difference. just the fact that we did donate our pots to a good cause is already making a difference. I know I make a difference once every week when I volunteer at the Westchester Rehabilitation and Nursing home. Putting a smile on someones face everyday is good enough for me.

  48. CAG1

There are not that many celebrities or people I can think of that donate their money to people. They really should give some money to the people who need it because they have all this money and can’t give not one penny.
